Black Cocoa Energy Bites

Black Cocoa Energy Bites are delicious little energy boosters packed with wholesome ingredients like black cocoa, sesame seeds, dates, and dark chocolate. Black cocoa, unlike regular cocoa powder, has a deeper, richer flavor and a darker color, often described as more intense and less acidic. This gives these bites a uniquely bold taste and a beautiful dark hue. With added matcha for an energizing kick, these bites are loaded with antioxidants, natural sweetness, and healthy fats to keep you going on busy days. They’re easy to make, perfect for the whole family, and a guilt-free, nutrient-packed snack you’ll love to keep on hand.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup organic rolled oats

1/4 cup organic black cocoa powder

1/4 cup organic black sesame seeds

1/2 cup organic Medjool dates

2-5 tbsp organic almond butter

1 tbsp organic chia seeds

1 tbsp organic goji berries

1/4 cup Lily’s dark chocolate chips

1-3 tbsp organic dark grade A maple syrup or raw local honey

1 tsp organic ceremonial grade matcha powder

Pinch of Celtic or Baja Gold salt

Water or organic unsweetened almond milk (if needed for consistency)

Instructions:

  1. Blend the oats in a food processor until they form a flour-like texture.
  2. Add the dates, black cocoa powder, black sesame seeds, almond butter, chia seeds, goji berries, matcha powder, and a pinch of sea salt. Blend until everything is combined.
  3. If the mixture is too dry, add a tablespoon of water or almond milk at a time until the texture becomes sticky and holds together.
  4. Fold in the dark chocolate chips for extra richness and antioxidant power.
  5. Roll the mixture into small, bite-sized balls. Note: if your mixture seems too difficult or sticky to roll place the mixture in the refrigerator for an hour or so to firm up.
  6. For an optional finishing touch, roll some of the balls in shredded coconut, finely chopped pistachios, or black sesame seeds for added texture and flavor. I will say my kids preferred the plain and sesame seed rolled bites as some of the toppings were slightly more bitter than they prefer.
  7. Place the energy balls in the fridge or freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up depending on your preference. Enjoy!
